Local Government
Lovegrove Solicitors' are boutique lawyers that over the years
have provided tailored expertise for local government. We
only offer our services in areas where we believe that we are
without peer, areas where our experience and intelligence is second
to none; experience that has been honed through years of
experience, involvement in development of building law in this
country, involvement in precedence setting decisions and the
protection of municipal interests. These areas are as
follows.
BUILDING REGULATION AND COMPLIANCE
We are pre-eminent in this field. Professor
Kim Lovegrove after all was the lawyer engaged by the
Government to advise on the development of the Building Act.
He was heavily involved in its drafting, its interpretation and
litigation to do with it. He is the expert on point.
PLANNING & BUILDING ENFORCEMENT
Kim have years of experience in compliance and prosecution
having acted for city and country shires. We are proud to say
that we have never lost a prosecution. Why? Because we know
“building and planning regulations”, and the intricacies of this
quasi criminal arena. We also do our best to get cost
recovery, but to be frank it is not always possible we nevertheless
have a good track record on point.
CAPITAL WORKS RISK MANAGEMENT AND FRONT END CONTRACTING
Our superior knowledge of building contracting and building law
enables us to develop contract packages that are designed to risk
minimise and prevent surprises. Surprises take the form of
variations, cost blow outs, contractual ambiguities time delays and
other such imponderables. Our clients can attest to our
ability to risk minimise and develop conditions that are robust and
sensible.
How have we developed such expertise? By writing books on
building law, by having had carriage of hundreds of building
disputes, by having drafted and amended hundreds of contracts and
by knowing our area inside out.
PROBITY AND COMPLIANCE
We have many years experience in the provision of probity and
compliance advice from both a strategic and implementation point of
view. Having prepared and amended tendering and
contract administration manuals and protocols for government bodies
we have hone our skills on point. Professor
Kim Lovegrove is the immediate past chairman of the Building
Practitioners Board and has a highly developed radar with respect
to that which is expected of public office, he also collaborated
with the NSW government on developing conflict of interests and
pecuniary interest protocols designed to govern the conduct of
building surveyors. We can give best practice if not “ahead
of best practice” advice on duties and accountabilities of public
officials, pecuniary interest and conflict of interest subtleties
and conventions and the implementation of procedures that stand up
to the highest level of public scrutiny.
